      The Old Fort was rebuilt around the church with an added blockhouse, about 1/4 mile west of the previous site. During the Revolutionary War the church, now known as Herkimer Church Fort, was re-fortified with a strong palisade and earthworks. In the church was renovated and enlarged. The church belongs to the regional Montgomery Classis of the Reformed Church in America. The former site of Fort Herkimer is located in the current town of German Flatts, on the south side of the Mohawk River in Herkimer County, New York.

The new location was the site of the Herkimer Dutch Reformed Church. The church was incorporated into the new fort and the result become the Herkimer Church Fort. On the other side of the Mohawk, the British built a strong blockhouse in and named it Fort Herkimer. Old Fort Herkimer.
